WIP: Squid Island Part Two – The background.

Except for thoughtless addition (near lowest tentacle), no black. The black is actually a very dark purple. Trying to keep clouds darker than head of squid. I kept having to push back the clouds to stop them from overwhelming the squid. More to do on the background but I am now going to switch to detailing the head of the squid “island”.

WIP: Pastel “underpainting” on gessoed paper. This is the start of the ugly ducking phase (between line drawing & nearly finished). It is to be a mixed media piece: pastel & oils. It is just shy of 80cm long.
