Mixed Media Mackeral

Mixed-media mackerel sketch (2011). I had a failed print, thought I might try using it as a base for a mixed media piece. Just as a quick experiment (a media sketch?). Mezzotint 5x6cm (~2×2.4in) print. Also playing with ghosting the image. Akua intaglio ink, printed onto dry paper. Photos taken on iPhone, so not the greatest quality.

WIP: Squid Island Part Two – The background. Except for thoughtless addition (near lowest tentacle), no black. The black is actually a very dark purple. WIP: Pastel “underpainting” on gessoed paper. This is the start of the ugly ducking phase (between line drawing & nearly finished). It is to be a mixed media piece: pastel & oils. It is just shy of 80cm long.
